Whyville BBS

Here in Whyville, we have a complete fictional society. We have a government, citizen rights, we have a Senate as well. We even have a newspaper. Instead of a 'To the Editor' section we have a Whyville BBS. After reading various newspaper articles, you can post your thoughts in the BBS. In the BBS you try not to ruffle any feathers, even if your opinion does so. People should not call you mean and hurtful names or send you hate mail because of this. That is wrong. But if you want to disagree with the position of the article you can do that. Also, it offers positive and negative feedback for the author because people will post what they liked about the style of the article or not. They also, in many cases give constructive criticism to help the author. Some articles get a very heated debate. Like 'Purity: Is it Really Worth Celebrating?' In last week's edition. The author's stance was that people should abstain from sex, and even dares to say kissing (The very intimate form) before marriage. She describes it as, "Think of yourself as a present. You don't want the tape not to stick, or the wrapping to be torn. If you truly loved your spouse, wouldn't you want that present to be just perfect? And, what if someone fully opened the box and took everything out of it (having an "intimate" relationship)?" (book67) This phrase was furiously debated over in the BBS. Many people agreed with her, as I and many other were appalled that she was seeming to call people who kiss before 'unpure' This seemed to set off and offend many people. But even though many were offended, I did not see once that someone called each other names. So, remember proper etiquette and please do not say hurtful things at people or accuse them of anything if they just don't share your opinion.
